About Friends of Whitman Music (FOWM)
The Whitman Middle School Music Program has grown exponentially due to its fabulous
music educators and community support. Friends of Whitman Music (FOWM) is comprised of parents, guardians, and community members who are committed to supporting music education for all Whitman students.
The FOWM planning meeting is held on the third Monday of every month. The organizing committee volunteers
meet remotely to discuss support activities for the Whitman music

Meet the Whitman Music Educators
We are proud to have accomplished music educators inspiring students in our band, orchestra, and choir ensembles.
Mr. Joel Orsen is in his 12th year of teaching at Whitman Middle School. This year he teaches jazz band, 6th grade band, junior band, senior band, and senior orchestra. Joel received
his degree in music education from the University of Washington. When
not teaching, he enjoys playing with local bands, including the Seattle
Sounders Sound Wave Marching Band and the University of Washington
Alumni Band.
Mr. Joel Orsen
Mrs. Ellie Kok will be teaching choir and
the 6th grade orchestra this year. Ellie received a degree in music from
Whitworth University, and a master's degree in teaching from Seattle
Pacific University. In addition to teaching at Whitman and Eckstein,
Ellie conducts two community choirs. In her free time, she likes to make
crafts, bake, and hang out with her husband, dog, and cat.
